Why See A School Counselor?

Students may need the services of a school counselor during life changing events such as:
  • Divorce
  • Separation
  • Long term illness of family member
  • Death of  family member or close friend
School adjustment situations are also times that students may need the help of a school counselor such as:
  • Getting along with others
  • Making friends
  • Anger management
  • Dealing with bullies
  • Being assertive
  • Making healthy choices
  • Test anxiety
  • Goal setting
Individual school counseling takes place during the school day.  Each session last approximately 30 minutes, one time a week for a period of 6 to 8 weeks.  During these sessions, students can talk about what is troubling them and role-play through some situations to help them understand their feelings.
Your child's visit as well as what you child shares with the school counselor remains confidential.  Although I cannot share the details of your child's visit, I can notify you of any positive or negative changes I see happening in your child as we visit.
If you feel that your child needs the extra assistance of a school counselor, please contact me at 972-522-6908 or email me.  Your permission is needed in order for your child to attend regular counseling sessions.
